culture tree

Assignment description: 
In this project, you will create art based on these images_a tree with roots, your name incorporated into the roots, images from your cultural heritage.

You could also use a mandala or a sunburst instead of a tree.






























Variation: Instead of your cultural heritage, you could use images based on an interest of yours. For example, if you love soccer, the design could be based on that.

Standard 1.0 Media, Techniques and Processes
Students will understand and apply media, techniques, and processes.

Standard 2.0 Structures and Functions
Students will use knowledge of both structures and functions.

What I want you to know or do:

1. Create artwork that contains elements of your cultural heritage
2. Demonstrate thorough knowledge and use of media and problem solving
3. Scan and upload a drawing
4. Use Photoshop to color your artwork

 
3 ways you can do this:
 1. Traditional_colored pencil on paper
 2. Photoshop only. High resolution images....at least 1000x1000.
 3. Ink drawing, scan, finish in Photoshop

STEPS:

1) Select images from the Internet that you want to use as reference materials for the additions you are going to make to your artwork. On a search engine such as google, try words from your cultural heritage. Remember when using a search engine, if you don’t find what you want fairly quickly, alter your choice of words in some way and then try again. Bookmark, download, save or draw the images that you want to use. You will to use them when drawing your tree design.
2) Do some small, quick, non-detailed thumbnail sketches of your design. This helps you plan it out ahead of time so you will create the best composition.
4) Once you have completed the previous steps and are ready to start on your final, lightly sketch the entire composition onto your final paper.
5) Ink and scan your artwork.
6. Color one version using Photoshop.
7. Color one version using traditional media such as colored pencils or paint.
