cubomania

Lesson Plan Title : Cubomania
Age Range: Grade 9 through grade 12 (High School)
Overview and Purpose: Cubomania is a technique used in surrealist art. It involves taking a photograph, cutting it up, and reassembling it in a new way. It is an interesting technique.
Objective: The student will be able to use cubomania to create a picture with a black and white photograph.
Resources:
5x7 black and white pictures
Pencils
Scissors
Rulers
5 x 7 pieces of white paper
Glue
Activities:
Discuss cubomania with the class and share some examples of the technique. Give each student a black and white picture, have them mark it off in a half inch grid, and then cut it apart. They can then glue the pieces onto the white paper in a random order.
Do this in Photoshop using selection tool.
Wrap Up:

Students can take turns guessing what the pictures were before they were cut up and reorganized or have fun describing what the new picture is trying to say about the subject. Pictures with a few simple subjects work best for this project.
